Developing A Cohesive Strategy

Developing a business strategy and aligning the manufacturing strategy to it is no easy task, yet understanding where we are in our market place and under what conditions we choose to trade can be the key to the way we run the business. Even in the most traditional and long established market places, mere complexity is giving way to outright uncertainty.

In today's competitive environment we can no longer center the development of strategy on a few individuals "at the top". It requires the combined will and might of everyone in the organisation to achieve the desired result, so much more effective then if the process encourages their contribution.

At Back-On-Track we approach the development of strategy on eight different levels.

1. To establish a set of core values to determine the way we treat our stakeholders i.e. shareholders, staff, customers and the environment.

2. To agree the immediate, medium term and long term objectives of the business particularly the expectations of growth and return.

3. As an inclusive process, capable of involving people from all levels of the organisation.

4. To establish and agree the business's competitive domain.

5. As a response to the external opportunities and threats and internal strengths and weaknesses by way of establishing competitive advantage.

6. As a means of differentiating managerial tasks at strategic, tactical and operational levels.

7. As a means of establishing the business processes and measurement systems needed to successfully run the business and monitor its performance.

8. To establish a mechanism for resolving issues.

The major benefit of our approach is to unite the minds and efforts of all the people in the organisation toward a single end, at the same time as establishing the managing systems and business processes central to achieving success.
